Mental illness is very common. Within Australia, one in five (20%) Australians aged 16-85 experience a mental illness in any year. Globally, one person dies every 40 seconds from suicide, the leading cause of death for those aged 15-29 years. It is estimated that the economy loses $1 trillion a year due to anxiety and depression.
As we settle into the new normal with COVID-19, taking care of our mental health is more important than ever. As such, as a way to celebrate my 30th birthday, I've partnered with leading mental health organisations in Australia that are working hard every day to prevent, reduce the stigma of, and treat mental illness; Smiling Mind, Batyr & SANE Australia.
